The brand new Tyranid FAQ (And more!)

So the Tyranids finally got their long wanted FAQ, and as I can guess the Nid players are in joy since they got some of their important questions answered!

For example they finally got the answer on if the Impaler cannon ignored cover saves. And it does! Vehicles can't protect themselves with smoke! And also if the Shadow in the Warp also affected psykers in vehicles as it does. It is good to have something that gives us answers on these things. And actually it is good just to get a new and better FAQ.

And as said there are so many FAQ's and it is indeed wonderful!

The new FAQs can be found at: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?categoryId=1000018&pIndex=1&aId=3400019&multiPageMode=true&start=2

On another note I finally got a Baneblade! And do not think I will assemble it as a Imperial one! I am currently converting it as a Plague-Reaper and magnetising it so that I can change the driver from a Chaos space marine to a Heretic Guardsman and take the Havoc Launcher off (Pics will be up soon!)

I also have to make another project finished. That project is a Chaos Sorcerer Lord flying on a flaming disc! (I promise you pics of that too!)

So all in all this is a good day for wargaming. (What day isn't?) So have fun!

The new necron codex.

WIHRS has landed here at the 40kBattlegrounds, as you might (or not) know I play necrons, I first began with necrons in late 2009 so i have endured their 3rd edition codex and is now switching to 5th edition.
I will talk/write (of course I wont talk, this is the internet after all and their is no video tape of me so you cant hear my voice but you can always read the letters I write.. anyway) I would like to start with the absolute first page in the necron codex, (yup im going to talk/write about every single page in the necron 5th edt codex, even those with pictures)

what I like about the most of 40ks codex’s is that you can read how that specific army is meant to be used just by looking at the front page, and I thought that maybe I could do that at the new necron codex. But no! The newest codex’s (mostly made by Matt ward) are just a lot of color and pencil lines, it looks awesome indeed. But it has no meaning and is even if there were a meaning it would be the simplest of all. To gain money for the Gameswork shop industry.. Sad yes indeed.
2nd page: here we see a picture of a very cool looking necron army. this is another trick to trap us consumers into buying this "awesome looking thing" that is a necron army.
3rd page: BIG no wait, what I mean is.. GIGANTIC letters that says.. Necrons, and a little signature which forms Matthew wards name.. Tragedy, or is it?!
4th page.. Okay this is to silly, I’ll promise you that ill only talk about some of the important stuff from now on..

The foundation of the necron fluff.
When necrons still was young in the game of warhammer 40k they were nothing more but simple autonoms with one ultimate goal.. To destroy all life in the galaxy and harvest it for their C´tan god masters.. Now the once almighty and indeed awesome gods is not as we thought them to be, because Matt ward wrought the new fluff about them, and they now posses no will of their own and their UNLIMITED POWERS is now reduced to something a normal hive tyrant could have.. The master has become the slave, the tides have turned, call what you will but the once so stupid and robotic necrons is now clever and with minds of their own. I think it’s actually pretty awesome that the new necrons is recreating their former Dynasties. but the fluff about their C´tan masters is not as good as it could be, Matt ward choose to split apart the C´tans, creating small shards of the once mighty gods.
How did the necrons become victories when their enemies were nothing less then a being of pure energy. Well this is unexplained in the codex. Well it says something about a weapon of massive power that not even the C´tan themselves could endure. So what matt ward is saying is, that the necrons posses a weapon able to destroy not one but at least 6 Gods. Gods that is able to create a black whole with less effort. So this weapon of immense power is hidden were, nobody knows. Not even the necrons for if they knew the location of this almost unrealistic (unrealistic is a word I rarely use and especially when im talking about a imaginary universe that involves Aliens such as Dark eldars and Necrons) this almost unrealistic weapon they would have used it. What if it was destroyed by a super nova or meteor storm? (says a voice from a far distance) well if this weapon would be so power full, then it should have been protected not by the most advanced protection But THE MOST advanced protection, or something entirely else.

For an example, the reason why the necrons felt into slumber under their tombs were not because the galaxy ran out of life as we previously thought. But because of a new thread. a race born by the old ones (the old ones are necrons nemesis and rivals, but together with the C´tans the necrontyrs killed all of the old ones but not all of their spawning those children of the old ones are these, Orkz, Eldars and many others) this race was the eldars, the necrons were to weak to fight against the Eldars and instead of raging into a war they would so surely loose they instead sleeped on it (literally speaking) but how could this war be so bad for the necrons when the eldars are hardly a challenge for the necrons now? AND the necrons would not only have all of their legions awake but also a massive weapon of ultimate power. Why is it that the necrons could not win this battle? That remains unexplained, Matthew ward does not want to tell us or at least for now..
Its not that I don’t like the new concept of necrons, I think the new Dynasty concept is great; it gives me great opportunities to make my own fluff for my army. But its just like already said/wrote, Its like a child who gets an idea, sticks with the idea but then suddenly half through the progress it realizes that some of it doesn’t make sense, so the child makes up a bad excuse for his mistake and leaves it as it is, while hoping no one cares, but hell I care, and I care a lot.

like on page 26-27 (thats the pages with battle reports and other small stories of no importance) its silly how he tales about the necrons, like in one of the stories the necrons destroys a squad of eldars speeders by teleporting a monolith right in front of the speeders so they would crash right into this gigantic floating pyramid/monolith. I think it’s a silly thought to be thinking... Savvy?
But what the heck its one of those things you can ignore.

I believe this is all from me, or at least about the necron fluff, the army in its whole (that includes unit description and how I would make use of them ((the special character will have a section for themselves but I will sometimes refer to them if it’s of any tactical use)) the army in its whole will come up soon as possible so stay put and watch closely for things that you might agree or not agree on.

Upcoming projects from Evilfighta

So I will do a lot of projects, for this blog in the near future (List is In the bottom). But right now I am very busy with school... At the moment I am writing a project about Wargaming (Yes I am serious this is kind of an exam thingy). So in the future I will write about:

1. How to do an easy wash that looks like rust.
2. How do I paint my Tyranids.
3. How do I paint my Iron Warriors.
4. Reviews of 40K books (40K as in the game not amount :P).

And much more will come later.

Necrons in Tyranid perspective

^ These are not my Tyranids( Don't worry, I will show you mine soon enough)

So are all these new necrons really so bad for us tyranids? I don't think it is wrong of me by saying that they are not the best a CC. They have a lot of anti-vehicle, but not in a way where Tyranids will be suffering much. They do have stuff like Tesseract Labarynth that allows the carrier to kill a character or monstrous creature in BSB(Base to base) with it. That could hurt our MCs, but really, a good tyranid player should make sure to screen the MC and make sure it will not stand in BSB with the necron with Tesseract labyrinth.

We also have the canoptic scarabs that removes the armour save on multiwound model if it takes an unsaved wound. Again, a propper screen should do the trick and if you are really that afraid of them reaching your MC, then have a screen and then get something like Raveners or Gargoyles to counter charge them.

All in all, the new necrons does not look as any particular thread against Tyranids. Not that I don't think that the new necrons can win in a game against Tyranids (because they certainly can), but they are not a total counter army to the Tyranids like Dark Eldars.

Also I believe that the new necrons might just turn the Meta in our favor. With a good amount of anti-vehicle, we might just see less parking lots in the future.

This is just thoughts, not facts.

However, a good amount of people have also started necrons in my local game store, so within not so long, I should have in some battles against them and I will of course share the battles here.

First glance 5th Edition Necron review.

They’re BACK!

Ah, Anyway the Necrons have finally risen from the tomb… And about a time as well!

So after finally getting the Codex, I decided to make a first glance review.

okay then… let us start with the fluff:

The Fluff.

While it is this part that I haven’t been reading so much of yet, i’m pretty sure that Fans of the old fluff is not going to like it. What do I mean by that?
Well… the Necrons have now gained personality and have enslaved their God C’tans… *Cough*

No matter how little I like the new fluff I like the concept of it, because it allows the player to add a little more persona to the army. Beforem the Necrons was pretty much the brother of Tyranids. They arrive/Wake up, They eat/ Destroyed everything they saw... and that's what they did.

However I’m sure this effect could have been achieved in a whole other way, without stomping like a maniac on the old fluff like you did Matthew ward. *sigh*

a quick look through the Interwebs I can see that I’m not the only one that thinks the new necrons fluff is not only horrible, but also freakin’ funny. I mean… If you read it through, I’m sure you’ll have a good laugh or two... well if you knew the old fluff.

Hah! Just take a look at Beast of war… At least they are having a lot of fun with the new fluff, hahaha!

Oh well… They have a lot of reasons to be happy as well. Actually on April the 1st, they made this Necron Monolith prank
You can see that one here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgPEvz3-qKg

Along with the new codex, there is actually some fluff about a Megalith. Have got to be the biggest surprise for beast of war ever... and I guess they have probably held a party or something by now to celebrate that their epic prank have actually turned to reallity... In some sort of way.

The rules and units

Enough talk about fluff! Let’s talk and compare the Codex to the old one.

Now, I would have liked Wihrs to comment on this. As a good Necron player, i'm sure he have a comment or 2 about the new codex, but we'll see if we can get him here to the Blog and perhaps make a full review of the new Necron Codex… But for now I'll just throw my thoughts and comments in the box, by taking the two Codecies and compared them.

As I’m sure you are already aware of, the necron warriors have been Nerfed.  They now have a  4+ Armor save instead of 3+. Their WBB role (Now named Reanimation Protocols) are now on 5+ instead of 4+. However, they still get to make their WBB rolls if hit with Power weapons or MC CC attacks. (And they have had their point cost lowered)

This somehow made me kind of happy. I’ve always been looking at the Necron codex and tried to figure out if I should start them or not, but the fact that their basic statline was pretty much the same as a Space marine, made me keep away. I have never wished to play an army based on a 3+ Armor save.

- “Speak for yourself! Give me my 3+ armor save back and Phase out, and I’ll be rolling!”

I’m pretty sure a lot of people would say ^ that to me, but apart from them, I like an army that is more based on tactics than Strength and durability. (I’m looking at you 3+ armour save)

You want your 4+ WBB back again? Then take a Necron Overlord and put some Necron lords w/ ress orb into your units.

For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, the Necron lords is a kind of upgrade, while not actually being an upgrade. You see, for each Necron Overlord you have in the army you may take a Royal Court. That means you can take some Necron lords or Crypteks (Which are more specialized than lords) and put them into your units as a kind of sergeant. You can take them in Necron warrior, Immortal, Lychguards or Deathmarks units.
I like the idea… While I at the same time think it is a little weird. Probably because I’m so used to the Necron Lord being an HQ and that he were the Supreme commander (beneath the C’tans of course)

Anyway, about the new vehicles… I don’t know. They are all AV11 all the way round, but in addition, they have AV13 on the front and sides (because of some quantum shield), until something makes a penetrating hit on them… And they’ll become 11 all around again. I like this concept a lot, but in some way… I think they should have kept that rule for the day they release the new Tau… Oh well…

Anyway I’m not going to be talking about everything in their Codex right, so I guess I’ll just round of with the Monolith.

The Monolith is weaker in the sense that it can now have crew shaken AND it doesn’t remove bonuses for armor penetration rolls (Happy days for MCs). But now it is able to teleport a single unit through its portal every turn. You have anything in reserve you would like to get out? Feel free to pick a unit and throw it through portal… No reserve rolls necessary. At first I saw a lot of people on forums building tactics about how they would teleport a unit through the gate and then charge. But remember everyone! When they get out of the Portal/Disembark, it counts as if the vehicle had moved at combat speed. But regardless, I’m excited about the new Monoliths and I am very curious to see how many people will field them after their durability nerf.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overall

Enough about the units and rules… What do I think all in all?

I think this is the best Codex that Matt ward have written so far. They don’t look as “Over powered” as his other armies. But, there is so many things in the codex that can be understood in multiple ways.

Here is an example
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nm7vvEvzeNI&feature=channel_video_title

And there is more than what he mentions in the video.
The Codex is so poorly worded that it... well, faster than you can say necron, will provide you with one of those sweet headaches.  The codex have barely been released and it already begs for an FAQ.

*sigh*

But… All in all, I don’t feel bad starting a necron army.
I will show some of my progress of the army as it evolves on this blog, so keep an eye on the blog for it, as it will go really slowly.
But for now, Happy wargaming to everyone out there.
